Internet Sketch – Notre Dame de Paris

After the day of the fire at Notre Dame, I was traveling in Northen Ireland. For two days, the local newspaper headlines were occupied by reports of the fire. I collected two copies and brought them back home. In mainland China, I purchased VPN (Virtual Private Network), a proxy software, to access google map and the street view of Notre Dame. The shown street view was not updated, still in December 2017. I, then, screenshot the displayed image and sketched the view on the pages of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. In July 2019, I visited Paris myself and took photos of the sight that was undergoing renovation at the time. By using tools like the gas torch and soldering iron, I drew the view on the pages of Dante’s Divine Comedy this time. During the trip, I also videotaped the Seine, running alongside the Notre Dame. The final displayed work is a composite among screenshots, newspapers, sketches, and recorded videos.
